We were able to enjoy guided tours through both castles. The castle rooms were large with elaborately painted murals and extravagant decor. While the castles appear medieval, they really aren't that old, Neuschwanstein castle is just over 100 years old.
The castles were a real treat and required quite a bit of hiking with epic detour spots to see the sights and grab photos. We were exhausted after walking up the steep hill to get to Neuschwanstein, the steep incline lasted for about 1 mile. After our castle tours were complete, we walked a bit further to a large iron bridge which crosses the mountain valley named Marienbrucke. Once on the bridge, we were able to capture an incredible view of the Neuschwanstein castle.
Wrapping up the day, we hopped back on the trains to return to Munich - the beer halls await!
