From London we hopped a high-speed rail train for Amsterdam. To break up the trip, we decided a brief stop in Brussels would be a nice chance to grab a meal and experience the local culture. Once off the train we were able to stow our backpacks in a locker before we set off to explore the city.
Although we were only in Brussels for a few hours, we enjoyed exploring it's multiple small alleys filled with lots of shops and restaurants. Our guide book recommended we stop at the Grand Place, a large historic town square lined with impressive architecture and small cafes to enjoy. It was easy to find the Grand Place as it is home to the town hall building which has a large tower dominating the skyline (making it a rather helpful navigation point for two occasionally lost Americans).
Once in the square, Travis was ready to stop and grab some local beers. We chose a nice pub overlooking the square and enjoyed people watching while we drank. Travis decided on a Chimay Blue (a favorite of his back home) and a Duvel as his local beer selections.
After reading in the guide book about Manneken Pis, Alazda became determined to find the popular tourist attraction. Manneken Pis is a somewhat over rated, but adorable statue of a small boy peeing.
Finally, we had to try a Belgium waffle before leaving the city. Luckily for us there were tons of small window shops selling them all over the city! Waffle in hand we set off back towards the train station.
Thanks for checking in!
